I created Anchored because I believe everybody
deserves to feel seen.
I believe we are meant to be in community with one another, and that's a good part of why I do this work. Therapy, when it's working, is a place where someone witnesses you and attunes to you and walks alongside you while you sort out what comes next.
THE HEART OF MY WORK
I pay attention to the parts you show me. And the parts underneath.
Compassionate + Attuned
I pay attention to the person in front of me, not just the problem that brought you in. There is room for gentleness here, and there is room for honesty too. We’ll figure out what you need as we go.

Culturally
Responsive
Your culture, identity, family, community, and lived experiences are part of the story. You should not have to leave those parts of yourself outside the therapy room or spend half the session explaining why they matter.

Creative + Body-Aware
Sometimes talking gets us there. Sometimes it doesn’t. We may bring in expressive arts, writing, movement, breathwork, Brainspotting, or other somatic practices to explore what your mind understands but your body may still be holding onto.

MEET MELANIE
Anchored started with a different idea of what therapy could make room for.
When I got my full license, I had every intention of doing this part-time. That was the plan. And then the referrals started coming, and they came quickly, and it became clear fairly fast that this was going to be a full-time thing whether I had planned for it or not.
What I wanted from my own practice was room. Room for the arts, most of all. I had spent a long time watching how much people could reach through making something that they couldn't reach through talking, and I wanted that to be a real part of the work instead of an occasional detour.
I also wanted Black people to have a safe space to land in a world that does not protect us. That mattered to me then and it matters to me now, and it is still one of the reasons this practice exists.
And I wanted yoga, reiki, and energetic practices to have a place here too, when they're a fit for the person in front of me. Those have always belonged in healing. They just don't always get invited into the therapy room.
Anchored Counseling and Consulting is what all of that turned into.
